JFC Group A: Syddan fightback not enough

September 07, 2024

Syddan's Eoghan Dillon with Joe Melia and Feragal Flynn Moylagh during the Meath JFC clash at Ballinlough

Syddan 2-10 Moylagh 3-7

Syddan and Moylagh played out an entertaining draw in well appointed Ballinlough GFC under lights on Friday evening.

Moylagh got off to a blistering start and with midfielder Shane Gibney waltzing through the Syddan rearguard to register a hat trick of goals in the first quarter. Indeed, the margin could have been worse had it not been for the efforts of Myles Avers in goal for Syddan.

Having been 11 points down at one stage, Syddan gradually managed to get a foothold in the match and points before half time by Ben Blakemore, Cathal Dardis and Daire & Cormac Rowe reduced the margin at the interval.

Half time score Syddan 0-07 Moylagh 3-05.

Syddan were much improved in the second period and battled well to reduce the deficit. Quick fire goals by Cormac & Daire Rowe, together with  points from Ben Blakemore, Daire Rowe and Eoghan Dillon left Syddan one point up with minutes remaining. Moylagh star man on the evening, Shane Gibney restored parity with a point from the last kick of the game. A draw was reflective of this battling contest and the result unfortunately means that Syddan exit the championship at the group stages. Syddan battled well to come back from such a poor start which augurs well for the fighting qualities of the team.
