Summerhill 1-13 Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-11

Summerhill advanced to the Senior Football Championship quarter final after this two point win over Donaghmore Ashbourne in a very entertaining match played in perfect conditions at Pairc Tailteann.

Conor Frayne and Diarmuid McCabe put the Keegan Cup holders 0-2 to 0-0 up in the early stages before Donaghmore Ashbourne hit back with four unanswered points from Michael O’Sullivan, Darragh McGovern, Jamie Browne and James Redmond. The games opening goal arrived on the 18th minutes courtesy of Conor Frayne and with seven minutes remaining in the half Summerhill were 1-6 to 0-5 in front. Two pointed frees from keeper Andy Colgan kept the ‘Moors’ in the game as Summerhill took a 1-7 to 0-7 lead to the dressing room.

The opening nine minutes of the second half turned out to be the Eoghan Frayne show. The county man hit four points and pushed his side six in front. Needing a goal Donaghmore introduced Andy Tormey to the action and on the 12th minute he had the ball in the Summerhill net. Sean Tyrell added a point and all of a sudden the champions were in trouble. Conor Gillespie’s men refused to panic. Frayne added his 5th before McGovern and Browne reduced the lead to one. Frayne with his sixth added the insurance point just before referee Andrew Smith blew the final whistle.

Summerhill enter the Keegan Cup draw as group runner up while a very impressive Donaghmore Ashbourne enter the relegation play offs.
