Blackhall Gaels 1-6 Bective 1-10
It was a disappointing outing for the Intermediate team on Saturday as they were left to rue several missed chances against Bective.
A stiff cross field breeze made life very difficult in the opening half in Dunshaughlin and we only registered two scores in that half despite enjoying plenty of possession and winning the midfield battle. Liam Jennings converted two frees but our wide count was high and unfortunately that was the difference on Saturday. Bective took their chances and we did not. Paul Kelly had a goal chance blocked down in the opening half which would have opened the game and potentially put Blackhall in the lead.
Trailing 0-4 to 0-2 at the break Blackhall were expected to kick on in the second period but it was Bective who struck a killer blow within seconds of the restart when they scored the first goal of the game. The Gaels were always chasing the game and it wasn't until the 24th minute of the second half when substitute Tom Powderly scored a goal followed by a third Liam Jennings point that this game sprang to life and there was a chance that we could get a draw at the least. With three points in the game and 5 minutes to go there was time to get that second goal but it never materialised. Bective finished the game with a final free to put 4 points between them.
It was a small case of redemption for Bective having lost the league relegation playoff to Blackhall a few weeks ago. Blackhall now go into Round 3 against Meath Hill needing to get a result to make it through to the knockouts.
