Jun B FC Group B: Good start for Moynalty

August 10, 2024

Moynalty's James Cassidy

Moynalty 2-08 Drumconrath 0-07

Moynalty and Drumconrath met in Nobber on Friday evening to open up their Coolrite Junior B Championship campaigns.

Both sides wore their alternative kits to avoid a kit clash, with Drumconrath wearing black and Moynalty wearing their Steam Threshing sponsored away kit. The first half was a physical affair, with Dudley Farrell's Drumconrath side showing excellent defensive shape and workrate, to swallow up Moynalty's sustained pressure infront of their goal. Keeper Johnny Lynch scored Moynaltys first point of the game, with captain Paddy Byrne contributing a first half brace of points, however it was Drumconrath who found themselves in the driving seat for the majority of the half. Cormac Kearney added a late score to leave the minimum between the sides going into half time, with the score reading Moynalty 0-04 Drumconrath 0-05.

The second half saw continued pressure on the Drumconrath goal, and Moynalty got their reward quickly after the restart when a long range James Cassidy attempt found its way into the back of the Drumconrath net. From here, Del O'Briens side never looked back and began to look more like the side who lifted the Division 5 title less than two weeks ago. Defensively, Adam Reilly impressed as Moynalty consistently turned over over Drumconrath attacks. The clinicalness infront of goal returned, with Jude Gilsenan scoring a standout goal along with points from James Cassidy, and Pauric O'Connor enough to leave the full time Score Moynalty 2-08 Drumconrath 0-07.

Moynalty now sit top of the three team Group B, with the next game against Eastern Gaels in Slane on Saturday September 7th with a throw in time of 6pm.
