August 04, 2024

Kildalkey's Stephen Murray

Dunderry on Sunday morning was the venue for the IHC round 3 game between Kildalkey v Rathmolyon two of the favourites for outright honours.

From the start Rathmolyon looked that bit sharper and took their scores well while Kildalkey struggled to make inroads on the scoreboard though they got a quick 1-1 from their top scorer Stephen Murray but nearly straight away Rathmolyon responded with a goal of their own and within minutes had a second

Mattie Cully hit 3 frees and Alex Rickard hit a lovely point on the run after breaking a few tackles Murray completed the kildalkey scoring with a point from the left wing near the sideline to bring his sides tally to 1-6 but it was Rathmolyon who led by 8 hitting 2-11

The second half had much the same pattern as Rathmolyon added the first point and followed up with a few more before Murray pounced for his second goal

Cully from frees and Murray again cut the deficit to 7 at this stage as Rathmolyon woke up and finished strong as they soloed through and scored their third goal and deservedly ended up 3-19 to 2-10 winners on the day as the rain came down at the finish.
