Cavan 2-10 Meath 2-4

Cavan, who beat Meath in last years final, had the strong wind advantage in the first half of the second Gerry Reilly Cup semi-final played on Saturday afternoon in Millbrook, Oldcastle. PHOTOS

The holders raced into an early lead with 3 unanswered points from Cian McConnell, Cathal Smith and Nathan Quigley. Meath responded with a Stephen Cahill point and a Robbie Johnson goal to take the lead in the 10th minute. It looked like a close game was on the cards, but that was not to be as Cavan dominated the play, especially in the middle of the field. John Donohoe got the visitors first goal on the 21st minute and with two minutes remaining in the half Faolan Graham raised their second green flag. Cavan led at the break by 2-6 to 1-2.

Scores were at a premium in the second half. Cahill and Sean Delaney narrowed the lead in the opening five minutes but the home side had to wait till injury time for their next score when a 45 from keeper Kian Campbell ended up in the Cavan net. The result was never in doubt. Cavan kept the scoreboard working with points from Graham, substitute James Cassidy, Michael Smith and Cathal Smith to set up a final date with Kildare.
