Dunderry 1-19 Dunboyne 0-19
A youthful Dunderry caused an upset in this Meath Senior Hurling Championship Group A round 1 clash played in perfect conditions at Pairc Tailteann.
Niall Smyth and Sean Quigley had Dunboyne on the scoreboard first but Tommy Leavy’s men hit back and were 0-5 to 0-3 up inside ten minutes with fine points from Jordan Martyn, Donagh O’Laoire (2) Mark Leavy and Evan Nolan.
The impressive Nolan added five in a row for the eventual winners and with five minutes remaining they led 0-12 to 0-9 before the games only goal arrived courtesy of centre forward Daire O’Driscoll. O’Laoire tagged on his third point and Dunderry went to the dressing room 1-13 to 0-9 in front.
Inspired by Ger Murphy and Sean Quigley Dunboyne raced out of the blocks in the early stages off the second half and by the 5th minute they was only two points in it. Scores from Simon Cunningham, Eoghan McCormack, Quigley (2), and Daire Rohan left it 0-14 to 1-13.
Dunderry had to wait till the 9th minute for their opening score, full forward Stephen Coogan obliging. By the 25th minute O’Driscoll’s goal was all that separated the teams. Quigley reduced that to two with his 10th point but the ever reliable Coogan sent over the insurance point in the second minute of injury time to seal a good win for Dunderry.
