Oldcastle 2-10 Syddan 0-9
Syddan came up short against a physically strong, sharp Oldcastle team on Wednesday evening in Pairc Ludlow.
Oldcastle started strongly attacking the Syddan rearguard with pace. They were somewhat fortunate to get an early goal when a shot for a point hit the post and dropped kindly to an Oldcastle forward who swiftly shot the ball to the net. Further scores from play and a well worked OIdcastle goal left them with a good lead at 2-4 to 0-1 up with a quarter gone.
Syddan tried hard to get a foothold in the game and where unlucky when through for a goal with a fine save from former Meath senior goalkeeper, Conor McHugh denying the men in green and gold hoops. Daire Rowe scored a good point from play to leave the half time score at 2-7 Oldcastle to 0-2 Syddan.
Syddan gave a much improved performance in the second half outscoring Oldcastle. Daire Rowe was very prominent scoring 0-7 in the second half. Syddan battled hard all over the pitch and will learn lots from the game with Oldcastle very strong in the tackle and well organised by Brian Donohoe & his management team.
