Hannah Heskin claims possession for O'Mahony's against Ratoath

Navan O’Mahony’s 2-14 Ratoath 4-00

Strong performances from Denise McGrath and a welcome return from injury for Sarah Powderly helped Navan O’Mahony’s make it two from two in the Division 2 league. The rain had eased for the game but conditions were still difficult for both sides.

Rebecca Reilly opened the scoring for Navan O’Mahony’s within thirty seconds of the throw-in, followed by a McGrath point twelve minutes later. Ratoath edged ahead after fourteen minutes, with a goal but McGrath equalised almost immediately.

Powderly was introduced as a substitute midway through the first half and made an impact instantly. With one of her first touches, she was narrowly wide for goal. McGrath added a further two points from play in the closing stages of the half to give the home side a two-point advantage at the interval.

Navan O’Mahony’s 0-05 Ratoath 1-00

It was Ratoath who got off to the better start in the first half, rattling the Navan O’Mahony’s net twice within three minutes of the resumption. This put some distance between the sides for the first time, with the visitors ahead by four points.

Navan O’Mahony’s kept chipping away at the scoreboard however and two Powderly points from play in quick succession had reduced the gap to two points after five minutes.

Three points in as many minutes from McGrath put Navan O’Mahony’s in the lead again, which they would hold onto for the remainder of the game. Midway through the half, Phil Fay’s charges had built their lead to five points, with Charlie Murray and Lauren Woods adding their name to the score-sheet.

A minute later, McGrath goaled to leave eight points between the sides, looking like it was out of grasp for the visiting side. Milly Clarke Carolan found the net with ten minutes on the clock, finishing the game as a contest. Ratoath added a goal within two minutes, but it was Navan O’Mahony’s who claim the two points on offer, with Powderly closing out the game with a point.
