Schools: Third time lucky for Duleek BNS

Duleek B.N.S. 4-7 Gaelscoil Thulach na nÓg 1-10

Having lost the last two finals Duleek B.N.S. finally got their hands on the Meath Cumann na mBunscol Boys’ Division 1 Shield Football title with this victory over Gaelscoil Thulach na nÓg at Pairc Tailteann. PHOTOS

The winners were well on the road to victory after the opening 25 minutes. Kyle Finnegan was outstanding for the winners in the opening half. The corner forward got the games opening score and by the end of the half registered 3-1. Equally impressive was midfielder and captain Charlie Finnegan who score 1-3 as Duleek went in at the break 4-4 to 0-4 in front. Tadhg Ó Dubhda, Aaron Ó Conchubhair, Richard Ó Fiail and Harry Ó Leathlobhair raised white flags for Gaelscoil Thulach na nOg.

Gaelscoil Thulach na nOg dominated the second half. A brace from Liam Mac Giolla Rua and one from Ó Fiail reduced the gap. Cummins and Jack Cadwell kept the scoreboard ticking over for Duleek as they were forced to defend for the last ten minutes. Another brace from Mac Giolla Rua was followed by a Seán Ó Beoláin goal for the Dunboyne school. Despite dominating possession the goals they sought never arrived and Duleek were crowned champions at the third time of asking.

After the game Frank Reidy presented the Boys Division 1 Shield to Duleek captain Charlie Cummins.
