Leinster club IHC semi final: Kildalkey no match for Kilkenny champions

Thomastown 4-19 Kildalkey 0-12

Kildalkey’s incredible season came to an end today with this comprehensive defeat to Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship winners Thomastown played in perfect conditions at Pairc Tailteann.

Before referee Conor Daly threw in the ball there was a minutes applause for former Kildalkey clubmen Nicky Potterton and PJ Healy who passed away recently.

The Kilkenny champions were never really in trouble and by half time their work was done going in at the break 2-14 to 0-5 in front.

The visitors got the perfect start with a Jack Holden goal with the first play of the game. Points from Thomas O’Hanrahan, John Donnelly, Holden, Luke Connellan (4) and Jonjo Farrell opened up an eleven point lead before Nicky Potterton got the Meath champions on the scoreboard from a free on the 18th minute. 

Luke Connellan got Thomastown’s second goal on the 25th minute and they went to the break 15 points in front.

Kildalkey came more into the game in the second half and by the 20th minute they outscored the Kilkenny men 0-5 to 0-3 with points from Potterton (2), Paddy Connelly (2) and Patrick Potterton. Full forward Holden raised his second green flag and soon after O’Hanrahan was in for his sides fourth goal to complete a comfortable victory.

Thomastown take on Wicklow’s Bray Emmets in the final.
