Schools: Gurmin stars as Rathfeigh end long wait

Scoil Mhuire Naofa Rathfeigh’s 23 year for another Meath Cumann na mBunscol Girls football title came to an end in a thrilling game of football at Pairc Tailteann. PHOTOS

Drumbaragh got a great start with a Feileadh Walsh goal but playing with the aid of the strong wind Rathfeigh dominated the remainder of the half. Stevie Gurmin scored 2-2, a goal from Leila Moffat and a brace of points from Jane Smyth gave them a 3-4 to 1-0 half time lead.

As in the opening half Feileadh Walsh gave Drumbaragh another perfect start with a goal. Gurmin replied with her 3rd goal for the eventual winners before the game swung Drumbaragh’s way. Two more goals from Walsh along with points from Éabha Mae Connolly (3) and Michaela Ryan tied the game up at 4-5 each. The outstanding Gurmin wasn’t finished yet and with the clock ticking down the talented corner forward got in for her fourth goal to seal a memorable victory for her school.

After the game captain Lucy Larmer was presented with the Division 5 Shield cup.
