Donaghmore Ashbourne's second team battled Summerhill's second team in the Final in the final of the Kepak Junior D Championship on a wet afternoon in Skryne.
Despite controlling the ball from the throw in, it was Summerhill who drew first blood after five minutes from Isabel Moran, but that was to be their only score of the first half. Two Holly Davis scores were followed by an Isobel O'Kane point leaving the Donaghmore Ashbourne girls 0-03 to 0-01 up at the break.
Summerhill came out of the blocks firing in the second half and notched up two quick scores to level the game, before Róisín O'Connor put the Moores back in front. Again, the ladies from the 'Hill were clinical in front of goal and took the lead midway through the half with a point from the player of the match Aoife Carroll. Holly Davis stepped up and fired two more points over the bar as the lead changed hands yet again.
With only minutes remaining, Summerhill rallied as our girls struggled to get the ball past the half way line. A fantastic point from play from Carroll was also followed up instantly by a goal as she was in the right place at the right time when a ball dropped short from a free to bury it in the net. This gave Summerhill the lead as the game entered injury time. The Donaghmore Ashbourne girls gave it their all to the end but the final whistle blew, leaving them heartbroken. Summerhill captains Ciara Gormley and Lisa Moore proudly received the Junior B Cup from Mary O'Shaughnessy on behalf of their teammates.
