The visitors were 1-2 to 0-0 in front after five minutes with half forward Shane Rigney netting inside a minute.

Darragh Horan put the Royals on the scoreboard before Offaly hit six points without reply, five coming from the impressive Adam Screeney.

James Andrews side enjoyed their best period in the game after that and scored three points through Paddy Barnwell, Joey Cole and Darragh Heffernan but Offaly finished with a brace to go in at the break 1-10 to 0-4 in front.

Tom Shine (2) and Cole got early second half scores for the home side but a goal from midfielder Dan Bourke ended any hopes of a Meath comeback after 12 minutes.

That goal took the wind out of the Meath sails and Offaly dominated the remainder outscoring the opposition five points to one.
