Navan O’Mahony’s 0-11 Skryne 3-12

It was a disappointing opener to the Premier 6 FC for Navan O’Mahony’s, with Skryne the victors by a significant margin in this refixed game.

In spite of the final result, it was Navan O’Mahony’s who got off to the better start, with two points from corner forward, veteran Derek Loughran. A point in response from the hosts was soon nullified by a similar effort from full forward Fiachra MacGabhann.

After ten minutes, the sides were level three points apiece. The next quarter of an hour saw the home side blitz Navan O’Mahonys, laying the foundation of the victory. In this time period, they managed 1-04 compared to two points for the visiting side from Ciaran McGuinness.

Scores from Henry Finnegan, his first appearance in a blue and white jersey in a number of years, saw the deficit reduced to three points at the interval, leaving the game very much up for grabs in the second half.

Skryne built on their lead early in the second half, kicking two points before Loughran once again split the posts for his side. Another Finnegan point left three points between the sides once again seven minutes into the half.

Similar to the first half, a burst from Skryne saw them edge in front, giving them a lead which Navan O’Mahony’s were unable to reclaim. With seven points between the sides entering injury time, it could have been a different outcome only for an impressive save by Skryne netminder when Finnegan stood over a penalty kick.

A late goal removed all doubt as to the result of the game, leaving ten points between the sides and the two points on offer going to Skryne.
