November 28, 2022

Wolfe Tones had two points to spare over Ballinabrackey Clonard in the Under 13 Roinn C final at Kilberry

Wolfe Tones 0-11 Ballinabrackey/Clonard 0-9 in Pairc Mhic Eoin, Kilberry

Maith an dá fhoireann as cath maith a chur isteach. Bhí an chéad leath ag Béal Átha na Breac/Cluain Ioraird nuair a bhí an Bhulf Tons ag imirt in aghaidh gaoth láidir. D’aimsigh na Tóna a gcosa sa dara leath agus throid siad ar ais chun an bua a fháil.

A windy Pairc Mhic Eoin in Kilberry was the venue for this years Division 3 Championship Final between Bhulf Tons and Ballinabrackey/ Clonard. The first point was scored by the visiting team in the second minute, they went on to have a number of wides before Bhulf Tons got a free at the other end of the pitch in the 9th minute and Liam Kelly put the ball between the uprights. Ballinabrackey/Clonard scored two more points in the following couple of minutes. The referee, Peter Halleran gave a free to Thomas McKeever from Bhulf Tons in the 19th minute which he scored nicely. Ballinanabrackey/Clonard followed in the next minute with another point. Wolfe Tones goalkeeper, Daniel Curley, was struggling to get his usual length from his kick outs with the strong wind against him. Ballinabrackey/Clonard took advantage of this and scored another point in the 20th minute. After that Bhulf Tons scored two more points from frees before the half time whistle. Following that Ballinabrackey/Clonard also scored two points in the 31st and 32nd to make the score at half time 0:06 to 0:04 to the visiting team, they deserved the lead as they played better football in the first half as Bhulf Tons had a strong wind to deal with also.  Ballinabrackey/Clonard did struggle at times in the first half too with a total of 7 wides for which proved to make a huge difference to the scoreline.

Bhulf Tons came out in the second half with a new lease of life and scored the first two points from play in the 35th and 37th minutes. Ballinabrackey/Clonard came back with another point to put themselves back in the lead, but the Tons lads fought back and scored the next two points, from Daire Lynch and Thomas McKeeever, which put Bhulf Tons in the lead for the first time in the game in the 41st minute. Ballinabrackey/Clonard didn’t give up and scored another point but two more points from Bhulf Tons’ Thomas McKeever and Liam Kelly kept them in front. Ballinabrackey/Clonards last point came in the 56th minute, but another point from Wolfe Tones Liam Kelly kept them 2 points ahead when Peter Halleran blew the whistle at full time, leaving the final score 0:11 -0:09 to Bhulf Tons.

Both teams deserved to win this game, as they played great football during the game. It was the Kilberry/Gibbstown lads who were left celebrating at the end. Well done to Ballinabrackey/Clonard on a great game and I’m sure we will see more great football from them in the future to come.
