Moynalvey Boardsmill joint captains Eric Halton and Cormac Dunne raise the MFC Division 6 Cup at Dunganny

Moynalvey/Boardsmill claimed LMFM Div. 6 Minor Championship honours when defeating Clonard/Ballinabrackey in the Final at Dunganny on Wednesday evening 12th October.

Moynalvey/Boardsmill 2-9
Clonard/Ballinabrackey 1-6

A second and third quarter dominance on the scoring front from the Moynalvey/Boardsmill lads set the foundation for this final win over another south Meath combination side in the shape of Clonard/Ballinabrackey in the final of the Div. 6 Minor football championship.

Clonard/Ballinabrackey opened the scoring in the third minute, with Moynalvey/Boardsmill’s opening score being a goal when full forward Evan Drum used his soccer skills to find the net.

Points from Luke Gallagher and Cillian Purcell either side of a Clonard/Ballinabrackey point left the goal between the sides at the quarter hour mark, 1-2 to 0-2.

Three Moynalvey/Boardsmill points from Aaron Sweeney, Peadar Bird and Eric Halton with a Clonard/Ballinabrackey point in the second quarter left it 1-6 to 0-3 at half time.

The third quarter belonged to Moynalvey/Boardsmill as they hit 1-2 without reply before Clonard/Ballinabrackey eventually got their first score of the half twenty minutes in.

Points from Aaron Sweeney, Luke Gallagher and Barry Walsh with a well taken goal from Peadar Bird accounted for that 1-2, leaving it 2-8 to 0-3 with 15 minutes remaining.

Moynalvey/Boardsmill might have been guilty of taking the foot off the gas as they rang the changes off the bench as Clonard/Ballinabrackey outscored their opponents 1-3 to 0-1 in the final quarter, with Moynalvey/Boardsmill’s last score coming from Evan Drum leaving the full time score 2-9 to 1-6 in favour of Moynalvey/Boardsmill.

In a brilliant all round team performance, best for the winners were Cillian Kelly, Seanie Cribbin, Cillian Purcell, Barry Walsh, Eric Halton, Evan Drum, Peadar Bird and Luke Gallagher with a Man of the Match performance in the middle of the field.

After referee Robbie Barrett's final whistle there were scenes of hubilation from the Moynalvey/Boardsmill players, management and supporters.

Following a speech from Co. Board Minor secretary Brian Kelly he called upon a proud TJ Reilly to present the Cup to joint captains Eric Halton and Cormac Dunne.
