Navan O’Mahony’s must fight again to secure their senior status, following a loss to St Peters Dunboyne in the relegation quarter final. Ballinabracky will provide the opposition in the relegation semi final, following their penalty shoot-out loss to Simonstown Gaels.

Darren Fay’s side got off to a quick start when midfielder Evan Coffey pointed from play seconds after the throw in. No scores followed for the next seven minutes until marksman Jake Regan scored his first point of the game from play. Only a minute later, Regan split the posts, again from play to give the Brews Hill outfit a three point lead.

Twelve minutes in, St Peters Dunboyne raised their first white flag of the game with a converted point. This was followed within sixty seconds by a goal, which catapulted them into a sudden lead. Midway through the second half, the sides were level again when Regan scored his third point from play. A St Peters point was soon nullified by an Eoin Joyce converted free, leaving the sides level again.

After twenty minutes, St Peters Dunboyne were three points to the advantage following a second goal. This lead was extended to four points before quickly being reduced to two again thanks to good efforts from Paddy Dillon and Joyce. Two quick points approaching half time for St Peters left four points separating the sides at the interval.

The deficit was extended to five points early in the second half when St Peters pointed from play for the first score of the period. Mike O’Reilly cancelled this with a well-taken point. Ten minutes into the second half, three points separated the sides following points from Joyce and Regan.

A stalemate ensued with no score for six minutes and St Peters managing to hold onto their lead. When the breakthrough did come, it was at the wrong end of the field from a Navan O’Mahony’s perspective. A converted 45 and a goal in quick succession left the side with too much to do.

Although both sides still had scores in the armoury at this juncture, St Peters Dunboyne had too much of a lead for Navan O’Mahony’s to overcome. Joyce and Regan added to their earlier tallies in this time, as did substitute Duggie Dillon. At the full time whistle, seven points separated the sides and it was St Peters Dunboyne who guaranteed their place in the 2023 SFC.
