Na Fianna 1-10 Trim 0-10

Na Fianna booked their place in the semi final of the 2022 Meath SFC with a 3 point victory over Trim in Clonard.

Trim started the brighter of the two sides and looked dangerous as they quickly transitioned from their half back line to the scoring zone. Their shooting was erratic to say the least however, as they registered a number of wides.

Na Fianna on the other hand showed glimpses of the strong running game which got them to the knockout stages. Ethan Devine and Sean Martin kicked impressive scores while Shane Walsh looked dangerous.

The half time score read Na Fianna 0-4 Trim 0-5. Na Fianna were certainly more clinical in attack but were struggling to create the volume of chances that Trim did.

Na Fianna flew out of the blocks in the second period. They kicked four unanswered scores as they put significant pressure on Trim around the middle third.

Na Fianna then lost James Geagan to a somewhat soft second yellow card. This allowed Trim to easily pick out a free man on their kickout and gave them a chance to build attacks from deep.

The newly promoted side managed to get themselves a point ahead as they pointed a number of placed balls.

Then, up stepped Sean McDonnell. He expertly curled his shot past Peter Farrell in the Trim goals and into the right hand side of the net. This put Na Fianna 2 points ahead as the game approached its closing minutes.

There were a number of stoppages in the second half so referee David Coldrick added 7 additional minutes of stoppage time. Na Fianna put their 10 years of senior experience to use as they expertly managed the final few minutes. This left the full time score in Clonard, Na Fianna 1-10 Trim 0-10.

Na Fianna will take a lot of positives from this game, most notably their game management skills and the outstanding performance of Sean McDonnell from the bench. They also however will have identified some areas to work on before they face Ratoath in the semi-final in 2 weeks time.
