In crushing Skryne in the first SFC quarter-final at Pairc Tailteann on a sunny Sunday afternoon, Summerhill were good value for their 18-point win.

Summerhill ....... 2-19
Skryne .............. 0-8

Having weathered the elements in the opening half and to some extent rode their luck, Summerhill outscored Davy Byrne's men by 2-11 to 0-3 when playing into the town goal.

Summerhill finished with 10 different scorers with Conor Lyons leading the way with seven points (six frees).

Summerhill's display was in keeping with the form they showed in recent months and marks them out as genuine Keegan Cup contenders.

Just three ahead at the break, Summerhill made a decisive break when outscoring Skryne by 1-4 to 0-0 within ten minutes of the resumption.

Sub John Lavellle netted the opening goal at the end of a slick move within three minutes of his introduction.

Summerhill maintained their momentum through the half with midfielder Adam Flanagan netting their second goal from close range early in the final quarter.. That left it 2-15 to 0-7 with the contest long since flatlined.

Despite playing into the wind blowing from the hospital end, Summerhill were quicker off the mark, posting four points without reply in the opening 10 minutes with three coming from Conor Lyons frees.

Skryne full-back Ciaran Lenehan pushed forward to open his side's account with a 12th minute effort from play. Davy Byrne's men upped their game in the second quarter, getting to within a point of Summerhill on two occasions.

Skyrne were unfortunate not to bag two goals in the second quarter. Oisin Keogh's effort struck an upright in the 24th minute. Four minutes later a John Finnerty shot struck the crossbar.

Summerhill closed out the half with an Eoghan Frayne point from play before Conor Lyons' fifth pointed free of the half left it 0-8 to 0-5 at the break.

Thereafter Conor Gillespie's men took full advantage of the elements to advance at their ease.
