On a weekend when a little bit of history was made, a new initiative by the Meath County Board was warmly welcomed at the county finals in Pairc Tailteann.
The referee’s of the Junior, Intermediate and Senior football championship finals were each presented with a medal to mark their achievement.
So often the ‘man in the middle’ just gets a mention in the post-match speeches but last Saturday and Sunday their efforts didn’t go unnoticed.
Supporters that attended the games on both days will be the first to acknowledge the fine jobs done by Moynalty's Kieran Olwell (Junior), Keith Sheerin of Drumconrath (Intermediate) and Curraha's Patrick Coyle (Senior).
