Neil O'Flaherty St. Pats

St Pat's 2-13 Moylagh 0-3

It was a wet and windy afternoon in Walterstown for the intermediate football championship relegation play off game between St. Pat's and Moylagh.

St Pat's were coming in to this game on the back of two good performances. Their comfortable win against Ballinlough in their first of 2 relegation play off game and the previous fortnight, they lost the Corn Na Boinne final against Trim by the narrowest of margins, so, St Pat's had every reason to feel confident coming into the game.

St Pat's started strong and after a quick attack they won a free kick which Shane Landy had had no trouble putting it over the bar.

5 minutes later, St Pat's got on the score sheet again after a quick break ended up with Donal Landy pointing from close range.

Moylagh pulled one back from a free after their own attack was stopped illegally by the St Pat's corner back.

St Pat's scored another 2 points from play with Neil O'Flaherty and Donal Landy both scoring lovely points after some quick and direct passing.

After the water break, St Pat's completely dominated the ball and were winning kick outs with some excellent fielding by John Curtis on 3 separate occasions and Donal Landy adding an additional point to his tally followed by Kevin Cassidy getting on the scoreboard.

Only a minute later after possession was won back in the middle, St Pat's moved the ball quickly and the ball ending up with Dee Quinn on the right hand side who had no trouble finding the back of the net. Moylagh did have a goal opportunity but they shot under pressure and the ball went wide.

Just before the end of the half, Kevin Cassidy scored another as St Pat's continued their dominance.

Half time: St Pat's 1-7 Moylagh 0-1.

5 minutes into the second half and St Pat's continued where they left off with Donal Landy and Quinn both scoring from play. Moylagh got another point a minute later but opportunities were very few and far between for them as they were second best all over the pitch. Neil O'Flaherty scored another point from play 10 minutes into the second half which was followed by Moylagh's third and final point.

They did have an opportunity with a free on the 21 but they went for goal and the opportunity was quickly snuffed out.

After the second water break, Shane landy and Padraig Nulty both scored from play within a few minutes of each other.

Neil O'Flaherty's impressive display was harshly cut short as he was given a black card and were down to 14 men, but only for a minute as the Moylagh side were showing their frustration which ended in a second yellow for their No.11. Moylagh conceded another free close to goal and Donal Landy added another point with only a few minutes to go.

St Pat's started to really express themselves a bit more with Darren Hagan getting on the end of a move and firing it into the back of the net right at the end.
