Ladies IFC semi final: O'Mahonys win it with free kicks

Navan O’Mahonys 1-17 Ratoath 3-11 after extra time (O’Mahonys win 4-2 on 30 metre frees)

In what was a match that took over 80 mins to decide a winner, Navan O’Mahony’s came out on top after a very tough battle with opponents Ratoath.

It took 7 mins before either team registered a score with Olivia Callan bagging the first point of the game. O’Mahony’s kept the pressure up and went into half time with a lead of 1.06 to 0.03.

O’Mahony’s were leading 1.09 to 0.04 after 9 mins of second half when Ratoath got a new lease of life and the battle began. They pushed on and the game ended in a final score NOM 1.10 RATOATH 2.07. 

The game went to extra time of two ten minute periods.

Ratoath got off to the better start and after the first 8mins, they had a 4 point lead. Both teams battled on and we had a score line of NOM 1.12 RATOATH 3.11 at ET Half Time.

O’Mahony’s came back on the pitch for the last half down by 5 points but showed great determination and kept battling on and registering 5 unanswered points. The final whistle went and we had a draw match after extra time. 

Next up was 5 30metre frees for both teams and then sudden death.  O’Mahony’s came out on top with a final score of 4 to Ratoath 2.

A great afternoon of football from 2 great teams.
