After the close opening exchanges Tones gradually built a lead and led by 1 07 to 0 05 at half time. The goal followed a long ball from Stephen Sheppard which was parried goal ward by Cian Ward with Cian o Neill applying the finish as the ball crossed the line. Tones built on the lead and thanks to a Cian O Neill goal with the assist by Oisin Martin they led by 2 09 to 0 12 at the second half water break but at this stage they were down to 13 men courtesy of 2 black cards and had to defend in depth as they awaited their return to a full complement. A goal from a penalty by Cian Ward after a foul on Niall O Reilly boosted the Tones and they looked comfortable leading 3 10 to 0 11 in the dying minutes but conceded 1 02 which left it a one score game and led to some nervous final moments as Na Fianna pressed for an equalising goal.
