SFC relegation play-off: 'Bracks' disappoint

October 11, 2021

Ballinabrackey's Danny Quinn

Ballinabrackey 1:08 Simonstown 2:14

Ballinabrackey started the match well with a goal from Gavin Quinn. David Carroll added to the score with a point from play but Simonstown were quick to respond with a point from play getting their first score in the game. Danny Quinn and Damien Carroll both stepped up to take a free each and within the first few minutes Ballinabrackey were looking strong.

This unfortunately didn’t last long as Simonstown kicked 3 points in a row and a goal rattled the back of the Ballinabrackey after this play and it was very quickly noticeable the strength and speed of this Simonstown side. After the water break, Simonstown hit the ground running with 3 points before Danny Quinn responded with a point from play. Simonstown continued to dominate the 2nd quarter with two more points leaving the half time score as Simonstown 1:09 Ballinabrackey 1:04.

Ballinabrackey got the first point after half time with a point from play from Damien Carroll. Danny Quinn continued to add to the tally with a point from play leaving it as a 3 point game but Simonstown didn’t let the Bracks in for any chances and kicked 3 more points to go 6 points ahead. A free gave Ballinabrackey another chance and Damien Carroll slotted it over the bar but before we could try narrow the score difference the Simonstown force hit the back of the net once again leaving the water break score as 2:12 to 1:07.

Ballinabrackey left themselves with too great of a challenge to fight against, as Simonstown kicked on with 2 more scores. Danny Quinn got our last score from a free to end the game leaving Simonstown safe in senior football with a score line of 2:14 to 1:08.

All credit goes to Simonstown today for a very strong display of football. Ballinabrackey were left disappointed but they get another chance as they face Dunshaughlin in the next round.
