SFC: Na Fianna overpower Curraha

August 16, 2021

Na Fianna's Ethan Devine

Na Fianna: 3-18 Curraha: 1-12

Na Fianna opened their SFC campaign with a comprehensive win over Curraha in Trim on Sunday afternoon.

Na Fianna were on top from the start when Jamie Queeney opened his account with a well taken point. Sean Martin buried an early goal as Na Fianna played some good attacking football with Jack McNally, Daniel Queeney, Luke Kelly and Conor Downey all hitting points. McNally found the back of the net for Na Fianna’s second goal after the first half water break courtesy of an incisive run from Sean Martin.  Na Fianna goalie Shane Geraghty made a customary point blank save from a Curraha player who was through on goals as Curraha only mustered five first half points compared to Na Fianna’s 2-07.

Jamie Queeney again hit the first point in the second half but Curraha hit a purple patch hitting 1-03 before Na Fianna eventually responded with a Daniel Queeney point. Points from Ethan Devine and centre back Oisin McCloskey pushed Na Fianna further ahead before Devine burst through the Curraha defence and drilled a shot low into the net..

Subs Owen & Ciaran McDonnell both hit two points each when introduced while Oran Smullen ventured forward from wing back to hit two late points as Na Fianna closed out the game for an important opening round win.
