Traditional number marking during the Carnaross v St. Brigids Tailteann Cup clash in Ballinacree

Carnaross 1-11   St. Brigid’s 1-06

Carnaross travelled to Ballinacree for Round 2 of the Tailteann Cup and emerged worthy victors after an engaging tussle.

Carnaross begin the brighter with 3 points from 3 attempts. Frank accounted for the first before Paddy McDermott helped himself to a brace. St. Brigid’s showed their worth with a purple patch that accounted for 1-3. Their goal was a well worked and intricate hand passing move involving numerous players that was the highlight of the first half. Carnaross shored things up defensively with Cormac O’Reilly and James O’Connor plugging the gaps expertly. The stern defensive showing provided the forwards with chances to score and McDermott helped himself to his third of the evening, converting a free from an acute angle. Cormac Yore then stepped up to the plate curling over a delightful effort from distance before doubling his tally with another superb score from play. This left the teams level at 1-03 to 0-06 at half time in an evenly matched first half.

The second half belonged to Carnaross as the introduction of Niall McDonnell was telling as Carnaross forwards began to create havoc. Paddy McDermott converted another two points, one from a placed ball and the other from play, to cap a fine offensive performance. Frank converted a free but was unlucky to see two goal bound efforts separately thwarted by Dylan Scully in the St. Brigid’s nets in the space of 5 minutes. A combination of Scully and the St. Brigid’s full back, cleared another Carnaross goal chance off the line as the maroon and saffron mens’s frustration grew. St. Brigid’s continued to counter attack and it reaped reward in the form of two points. The midfield duo of Fleming and Comaskey began to dictate proceedings around the middle which laid the foundation for the second half. Frank eventually got his goal sending Scully the wrong way to edge Carnaross in front. He finished out the game with 2 more points as Brigid’s fought valiantly to the end.

Overall, it was a match full of intensity, doggedness and desire where the goal from Carnaross in the second half decided the encounter.
