Jim Curtis meets members of the Dunboyne team before the start of the 2018 Meath SFC final at Pairc Tailteann

One of the county's best known and longest serving Gaels Jim Curtis was elected as a president of Meath GAA at last night's county convention.

The Rathkenny native is a former chairman and long time official of the Syddan club and served as a Meath football selector and also a number of positions at County Board level.

Jim who lives at Ballybalia, outside Ardee, represented Meath at minor football level for two years and played for a number of clubs in his youth.

He trained the Syddan team that contested the 1980 SFC final and was a selector with Sean Boylan when Meath won the Centenary Cup in 1984. He filled the same role with the junior team that won Leinster titles in 1986 and 1988 as well as the All-Ireland title in '88.

He also served at County Board level both on the executive and the disciplinary committee. Jim was also chairman of the Sean Gael Committee where many of the older generation of volunteers who had provided great service to the GAA were recognised. He was also a 'gateman' at Pairc Tailteann for many years.

Jim was the guest of honour at the 2018 county championship final.
