St. Michaels Jamie Farrelly with Chris O'Connor Ballinabrackey during the Meath IFC semi final at Pairc Tailteann

Ballinabrackey 3-13   St. Michaels 1-13

It has been a long time coming, but Ballinabrackey are finally back in an IFC county final as they overcame St. Michaels in Páirc Tailteann.

This game was an absolute cracker and credit to both teams, they gave it their absolute all. Michaels were very quick to get the first point on the board and looked dangerous on the attack in the opening minutes, as the Bracks took time to settle. A Damo Carroll free, followed by a Seamus Curry mark allowed tensions to calm and for the Bracks to get their names on the board. Michaels responded quickly with two points from play before David Carroll buried a ball into the back of the net to put the Bracks ahead. Michaels came back again pinning a free and a point from play on their tally. A tight, tough game was on the horizon as Damo Carroll pointed one more from play before the water break leaving the score as Ballinabrackey 1:03, Michaels 0:05.

Ballinabrackey man of the match Derek Flynn got the first one on the scoreboard after the water break, followed by Juicy O Connor, Sean Kavanagh and Danny Quinn rocking up the scores. Michaels got a free to finally get back scoring, but the Bracks put that to bed quickly with a point from Danny Quinn and a superb goal from Barry Thompson. A credit to Michaels though, they fought back with a goal of their own and a point before the half time whistle. Quinner and Sean Kavanagh kept the Bracks ahead by six at half time.

Michaels came out on the attack the second the next half started getting three scores in a row to put it only a goal between the sides. Tensions were high for both teams here and it was point on point for the remaining time to the water break. Damien Carroll kept the Bracks on track. With 15 minutes to go, it was all to play for with the Bracks leading by four.... Michaels again came out flying with two scores on the board but it was Sean Kavanagh who sealed the deal for the Bracks with the goal of the weekend to ensure the boys in the green would be back in the main stage for County Final Day. Juicy O’Connor with the last point of the day. What a day for Ballinabrackey, well done to all players and management. Roll on October 3rd.
