IFC: Superior Castletown advance to last four

Castletown 1-14  Meath Hill 1-11

Castletown advanced to the semi final of the intermediate championship with this 3 points victory played in perfect conditions in Pairc Tailteann. After getting over Meat Hill, Castletown now face another local team Nobber in this years IFC semifinal. 

In a first half which was evenly contested and level on 6 different occasions Castletowns Wayne Donegan opened the scoring a point from play in the first minute. Meath Hill scored two in a row on the 4th and 6th minutes only for Barry Smith to level matters a minute later from play. Meath Hill went one up again and Darren Finney levelled with a free on 12 minutes with Meathill going one up again a minute later. Darren Finney kicked another free for Castletown to draw level on the quarter hour mark. Killian Price scored from play for Castletown and Meath Hill went one point up again with points in the 24th and 25th one from play. Castletown went into the break a point to the good with pointed frees from Darren Finney and Kevin Ross to leave it 7 points to 6 for the eventual winners. This really could have been better for Castletown who also kicked 8 sides in the opening period.

Castletown then shifted up a gear at the start of the second half and scored 5 unanswered points from play 2 for Kevin Ross and one each from Declan Cribbin, Tommy Smith, Killian Price to go 6 clear. Meath Hill failed to raise a flag until the 47th minute a pointed free and then in the 52nd minute Kevin Ross scored a penalty when Evan Hoey was hauled to the ground inside the large parallellogram for Castletown to lead 1-11 to 0-7. Meath Hills reply was a point from play only for Kevin Ross to score one from play for Castletown. Killian Price increased Castletowns lead with his third point from play on 56 minutes with Meath Hill replying with a free. Tommy Smith scored a point from play on 59 minutes for Castletown who were then caught napping when a quick free for Meath Hill ended up in the back of the Castletown net which was followed by two points from play inside the 7 minutes of overtime referee Andrew Smith played. 

How a year has changed the fortunes of Castletown who are now looking forward to a semi final, another local derby this time against Nobber in two weeks time.
