Dunboyne were victors against Wolfe Tones in Round 4 of the JFC in Sean Newman Park on 7th August 2018
St Peter's Dunboyne 2-16 Bhulf Tón 1-13
This was a very entertaining hard-fought contest with St Peters getting the decisive score (a goal) eight minutes from full time. This score gave the Dunboyne men a six point margin and although Tones rallied they were unable to get the goal they needed to get back in the game. Their best goal chance being a ball across the square in the dying minutes from Alan Fox which Davy O'Neill almost forced into the net. Star of the show for the Tones was Thomas Blaney who finished with 1-10 to his credit, six points from play. His goal came from a penalty which he finished in style having being fouled as he bore down on goal.
Dunboyne were strong favourites but were made to work hard for this victory. The minimum separated the sides at half time with the east Meath men holding a one point lead on a 0-8 to 0-7 scoreline, having come from 0-7 to 0-4 down after 18 minutes. Blaney accounted for all but one of the Tones scores, Alan Fox (free) being the other Tones scorer.
The purple and gold side levelled shortly after the interval, that man Blaney again. Dunboyne replied immediately and then added a goal to go 4 ahead. Thomas Blaney was on the end of a good team move and was fouled as he shot for goal. He converted the spot kick with aplomb to keep the Oristown/Kilberry/Gibbstown team in touch. The sides traded scores with Tones adding 3, Gordon Beggy (1) and Blaney (2) scoring, and Tones trailed 1-11 to 1-14 after 22 minutes. A Dunboyne goal set them up for victory. The losers replied with two pointed frees from substitute Oisín Corrigan and Thomas Blaney but were unable to close the gap.
