Na Fianna 4-8 Oldcastle 2-6
Na Fianna Senior Ladies Footballers opened their 2018 Senior Championship campaign with an impressive victory over last year's county champions, Oldcastle in Baconstown on Wednesday evening. Captained by county player Shauna Ennis, the South Meath girls opened their scoring with a goal from the returning Deirdre Flynn. Scores were exchanges throughout the first half with Leah Devine, Meabh Downey and Maire Kirby scoring points and Erin Leddy getting the first of her two goals. Na Fianna held a slender 2-4 to 2-3 half time lead.
The home side upped their game in the second half and held a seven point lead as the game entered the final ten minutes through further points from Devine, Leddy and Andrea Colgan plus goals from Kirby and Leddy. Apart from those already mentioned, Na Fianna also had strong performances from Aine Kirby, Grainne Vaugh, Emma Regan, Sarah Ennis, Hazel O'Reilly Higgins and Aedín Slattery.
Na Fianna play Simonstown in the next round of the championship, while the Junior footballers take on Oldcastle's second team tonight (Thursday) in their first round of championship. The game throws in at 7:30pm in Baconstown.
