Late points from Shane O'Neill and sub John Lunney did the trick as hosts Simonstown relieved Navan O'Mahonys of the Feis Cup on Tuesday evening.
Sean Reilly's 52nd minute point regained the lead for the visitors, 0-11 to 1-7. However, the home side closed out the game with three unanswered points, including a levelling score from Shane Barry with the hour almost up.
Scores were tied seven times over the course of this second round fixture including at half-time when the board read 0-4 each.
Flags raised by Paddy Smyth (free) and Lee Russell moved O'Mahonys two points clear within six minutes of the restart before O'Neill pulled one back for the home side.
Then came the game's only goal in the 41st minute when Joe Lyons capitalized on a defensive error to feed Stephen Moran who netted from close range.
O'Mahonys got back on level terms through sub Alan Forde and wing-back Ian Matthews. Simonstown moved two points clear again with P. J. McGauley and Barry registering.
Three points on the spin - including efforts from Smyth (free) and David Murtagh as well as Reilly's aforementioned score - restored O'Mahonys advantage.
Finian Murtagh's men failed to register again as Sean Barry's charges finished with a flourish to book a quarter-final spot.
Three was never more than a point between these local rivals in the opening period during which time the scores were tied four times.
Each side led on two separate occasions in the first 30 minutes with Shane Gillespie's second score from play levelling matters before half-time.
