ST MARYS 4-15
MATTOCK RANGERS 0-20
Four goals inside the opening 32 minutes helped St Marys secure victory over Mattock Rangers and go through to the quarter-finals as Group 4 winners.
Conor Gillespie, Daire McConnon and Darren Clarke all found the net in the first half before Ronan Carroll added a fourth two minutes into the second half to put his side firmly on course for victory.
The result also means that Mattock finish bottom of the table with Newtown Blues advancing as runners-up.
For much of the opening half there was little to choose between the teams and it was Cathal Fleming who had the first score on the board for Mattock, with Darren Clarke levelling soon after.
The next four points were shared with David Reid and Ben McKenna striking for Mattock in reply to efforts from Ciaran Keenan and Clarke to leave the game level at three each.
However, the Ardee men took a grip of proceedings with four unanswered points and a goal from Conor Gillespie. Although the Collon side hit back to reduce the gap to four, goals in quick succession before the break from McConnon and Clarke had the Marys 3-10 to 0-9 to the good at the interval.
Any real hopes that Mattock had of getting back into the game all but disappeared within two minutes when Clarke found net.
Mattock did respond well and added another 11 points to their tally but the Marys defence held firm to prevent any goals and they went on to record a comfortable win.
