Westerns are on the brink of the Division 3B League title after recording a 0-19 to 0-10 win over Cuchulainn Gaels in Omeath on Saturday evening. Tommy Durnin was once again the star of the show for the Reaghstown side as he landed 12 points over the hour.
Others on target in the first half for the visitors were Anthony Durnin and Terence Sweeney, but at half time the lead was just 0-8 to 0-7 as the Gaels battled gamely with Ray Phillips and Jody Keenan replying for the hosts.
However, the home side couldn’t stay with their opponents in the second half and with Tommy Durnin, Patrick Kerley and Anthony Durnin on target, they ran out winners by nine points despite Keenan and Jordan Loye finding the target for the Gaels.
Dowdallshill closed the gap to third placed John Mitchels to just one point when they defeated the Ballybailie men by 3-11 to 1-8 at St Brigid’s Park.
