Draws: The draws for the Louth club championships were made last Wednesday night and we are in group 3 of the senior championship along with Mattock Rangers and St. Brides. We will play Mattock first and it will be the second year in a row we meet a Wayne McKeever managed team in the senior championship.
Big Day: Best wishes go to our full back Conor Byrne who gets married this weekend to Lisa McDonald. We hope the couple have a great day and a wonderful future together, from all at O’Connells GFC.
Div. 2 League: We were on the wrong side of a heavy loss last Saturday night to the league leaders in Dundalk. We never got into the game and truth be told the game was over at half time as we were 12 points behind. It looks like points are going to be hard to come by in the rest of this division so best to put this one aside and move on.
Team: Stuart Reynolds; Liam Kiernan, Conor Byrne, Jack Saddlier; Emmet Byrne 0-2, Jackie Agnew, David Hoey; Stuart Osbourne, Conor Kiernan; Andrew Keenan, Dean Stanfield 1-1, Evan Caldwell; Cian O’Dwyer, Robert Quigley 0-6(2f), Conor Culligan. Subs Brendan Saddlier for D. Hoey, Conor Martin 0-1 for A. Keenan.
New Arrival: Congratulations to O’Connells player Sean Cairns and his wife Isabel on the birth of their baby boy Sean Óg.
Div. 6 League: Another heavy defeat in this division last week, just 13 a-side but the Dunleer side were just too strong for us on the night. Once again a big thank you to the lads who came back to play for the club on the night, it is much appreciated.
Team: Sean Connolly; David Neasy, Kyle Daniels; Stefan O’Hanrahan, Liam Kiernan, Conor Martin; Cian Geeney 0-3(1f), Micheal Cairns; Brendan Saddlier 0-1, Jason Carroll, Jamie Murphy; Tadhg Kearney, Dara McDonnell. Subs Used Stephen Hoey, TJ Doyle, John Quinn.
New Venture: Best of luck to one of our former players, current member and supporter Brian Vinnie Heaney who open’s Heaney’s bar this weekend in the village, formally known as The Brewery Tavern, Matts, Mulholland’s and Gormley’s (just in case anyone goes the wrong side of the street). O’Connells GFC wishes Brian every success with his new venture.
Cúl Camp: The O’Connells Cúl Camp will take place next Monday 19th July to Friday 23rd July; so it’s the last week to get a place at the camp, places are limited due to Covid. Booking is online at www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie. For further details contact camp supervisor David Dunne 087- 1378872.
