MEATH HILL 0-14
GLEN EMMETS 0-11
Glen Emmets hopes of adding the Leinster Junior Championship to their Louth title were crushed on Saturday afternoon in Drogheda when they lost out to Meath Hill in the quarter-final.
In a game played in very difficult conditions, the Emmets battled bravely throughout but just failed in a late comeback as the Meath men held out for victory.
There was little between the teams throughout the game but crucially the visitors always had the advantage from as early as the ninth minute and they did enough to protect that lead until the final whistle.
It took the Meath men just two minutes to open the scoring but James Butler pegged them back with a well taken score. However, the visitors restored their advantage on nine minutes before making it 0-3 to 0-1 two minutes later.
Damien Grimes pulled one back for the Tullyallen men but Meath Hill then made the decisive move of the game when they scored four unanswered points to lead by 0-7 to 0-2 on 21 minutes.
However, the Emmets gave themselves hope when points from Grimes, Ronan Grufferty and Butler reduced the gap to 0-8 to 0-5 at half time.
Two points from Butler helped cut the gap to 0-9 to 0-7 at the end of the third quarter, but they couldn't bridge the gap as each time they got close, the Meath men managed to respond to maintain their lead.
The visitors kicked three of the next four points to stretch the gap to 0-12 to 0-8 with six minutes remaining.
However, the Emmets weren't finished and continued to battle and points from Andrew Mooney either side of a Grufferty effort had the deficit down to one point deep into injury time.
As the Louth men went in search of the equaliser they were hit on the break as Meath Hill clinched victory with two late points to book their place in the last four.
