Newtown Blues 4-10
Hunterstown Rovers 1-6
Newtown Blues can turn their full attention to preparations for the Senior Championship Final after securing their place in Division 1 next season with a comfortable victory over Hunterstown Rovers in the play-off on Wednesday night.
The Drogheda side were rarely troubled as they dominated this game from the outset and after establishing a 12-point interval lead they result was never in doubt.
Hunterstown went into the game with high hopes of causing an upset but their aspirations of getting up to the top flight were dashed by the in-form Blues who have really found their rhythm in the second part of the season.
Derek Kierans did most of the damage in the first half as he bagged a hat-trick before the short whistle to see his team lead by 3-7 to 1-1, with Ryan Burns hitting the net for Hunterstown.
Rovers never looked capable of mounting a comeback in what proved to be a relatively low-key second half, as a goal from Hugh McGinn completed a very comfortable victory for the Blues.
Ross Nally chipped in with four points for the winners while Jimmy Murray, Ciaran Downey and Conor Brannigan were also on target.
