Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Leinster Club Championship Quarter Final: We could not have asked for a more perfect day. The sun was up as early as we were and continued to shine for us all day long. The grounds were an absolute picture thanks to Michael, Thomas and all involved with the pitch in perfect condition and the ground looking absolutely fabulous. When Tinahely arrived they brought good support with them which all helped add to the atmosphere. Teams were announced (thanks to Peter Masterson on PA), and after a perfect rendition of the anthem by 16 year old club woman Abi Duffy, we were set to go. The game itself was played in great spirit by both sides and well managed by referee Des McEnery and his team of officials from Westmeath. We gradually got on top and points began to flow from all positions on the pitch as we built up an unassailable lead running out winners 3-15 to 1-06. It was then into the clubhouse where the ladies of Dromard Healthy Eating Committee plus Jackie's home-made vegetable soup ensured that players, officials and supporters alike were sent home well fed. Our special thanks to Mary Reilly and to Pat the Baker for their very generous sponsorship. Well done to the Senior Club who provided stewarding, ensuring everybody was able to park easily and enabling safe access into the ground, to John Joe who as always when called on organised the gate for us. The day was rounded off with a delicious evening meal in Dillon's, Ballinamuck. Our thanks also go to several people and businesses in the area for their donations, both of time and money to ensure that the first hosting of a Leinster Ladies Match in Dromard was a resounding success and hopefully the first of many. That's up to the players of course and we know they will not be found wanting as they eagerly await the semi-final against either the Meath or Carlow champions in two week's time.

Under 14 Special League Final: This long-awaited final took place this past week at a neutral venue in Clonguish. Result and Report next week.

Minor Championship: This got under way this week and our joint amalgamation with Colmcille had a bye, so the first match for us is away this Sunday 8th at 11.00am in Clonguish. Every eligible girl under 18 at the start of this year are asked to tog out as both clubs are very short on numbers at this age hence the amalgamation

Congratulations: To Sarah Buchanan from our u/10 panel who will be 9 on Friday, and to our treasurer Gloria Kavanagh and her husband Mattie on the safe arrival into the world of a third little boy, Tom.
