Patrickswell GAA Notes

May 13, 2013
Senior hurlers:
The Senior hurlers suffered a narrow one-point defeat, 3-10 to 0-18, in the opening game of the County Championship against Doon. It took Diarmuid Byrnes a minute to open Patrickswell's account on a cool and slippery evening in Bruff. Doon responded with three consecutive points, before Mark Carmody recorded the 'Well's second point. However, Doon experienced a purple patch in the middle of the first half and surged ahead with a goal and two points.

The scoreboard showed a 1-5 to 0-2 deficit as Patrickswell mounted their fightback. Tom O'Brien, Kevin O'Brien, Diarmuid Byrnes, Seanie O'Brien and Jack Kelleher all notched points to compensate for the loss of Lar Considine through injury. At the interval, the 'Well trailed by 1-7 to 0-7.

In the second half, despite a huge effort by the team, the wides mounted up and ultimately proved decisive with the 'Well losing by a single point.

Junior A hurlers:
The Junior A hurlers recorded a fine 3-16 to 1-6 victory over Old Christians in the City League. Patrickswell play their last group game against Kildimo-Pallaskenry away on Sunday May 19 at 6pm.

Junior A footballers:
The Junior A footballers make a congested start to their City League campaign with two fixtures in 48 hours. On Tuesday May 14 at 7pm, Patrickswell entertain Mungret. On Thursday May 16 at 7pm, Na Piarsaigh also visits Pairc Antoin O'Briain.

Under 14 hurlers:
The Under 14 hurlers relinquished their County Feile crown after a keenly fought match with Na Piarsaigh. The 'Well were stronger in the opening exchanges as Jason Gillane scored a goal from distance and Morgan Higgins fired over a point. The Caherdavin boys increased their tempo and caught Patrickswell with a close-range goal to build a 1-3 to 1-1 advantage. Within two minutes, Na Piarsaigh scored another goal that wickedly spiralled over Paul Buston. The first half closed at 2-3 to 1-1.

The second half was a low-scoring affair as Na Piarsaigh attempted to hold their advantage. Patrickswell tried really hard, but could not crack their opponents' resolute defence. Daniel Feasey added a point, but the final outcome was a 2-5 to 1-2 reverse. Hard luck to players and management for having such a good campaign and bringing pride to the club.

Camogie:
The Junior camogie ladies lost against Kilmallock in the semi-final of the League. Elsewhere, the Under 16 girls produced a brave performance against Na Piarsaigh. However, the 'Well lost out by 2-3 to 1-3. Hard luck to the camogie club.
