Dublin midfielder Lauren Magee has decided to step away from Aussie Rules to focus on ladies football.

Magee joined her Dublin team-mates Sinead Goldrick and Niamh McEvoy at the Melbourne Demons ahead of the 2021 season and played 11 games over two seasons. A daughter of former Dublin and Kilmacud Crokes star Johnny Magee, she was introduced in the second half of Dublin's TG4 Leinster Senior Championship final victory over Meath at Croke Park last Saturday.

“It’s always challenging for international athletes, so we are fully supportive of Lauren’s decision to step away from AFLW,” said Melbourne AFLW list manager Todd Patterson.

“We thank Lauren for all that she sacrificed in trying to learn a new game a long way from home.

“We wish her all the best in her future pursuits, particularly with Dublin.”
