Staunton's GWS Giants miss out on AFLW play-offs as Demons secure top-four finish

March 27, 2021

Dublin and Melbourne Demons star Lauren Magee.

Cora Staunton's GWS Giants are out of the race for a place in the AFLW play-offs following today's final round results.

The Giants will face Carlton at Blacktown on Sunday afternoon knowing they cannot qualify for the top six.

With her Dublin teammate Sinéad Goldrick sidelined through a season-ending injury, Lauren Magee topped Melbourne Demons' tackle count in their 38-36 comeback victory over Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields.

The Demons have now guaranteed themselves a top-four finish, while the Lions, who held top spot going into this weekend, face an anxious wait to find out where they end up in the final regular season standings.

The play-offs format sees the top two ranked teams receive a bye into a home preliminary final (semi-finals), while the next four sides play-off in qualifying finals (quarter-finals), with third and fourth-placed also at home.
