Oisin McConville is not convinced that counties will voluntarily ‘step aside’ from inter-county action in the event of a coronavirus outbreak.

Yesterday GAA President John Horan revealed that, due to the tight time frame involved in any potential inter-county championship season, teams will be asked to withdraw from their respective competition in the event of an outbreak.

The Armagh All-Ireland winner responded to Horan’s comments on RTÉ Radio 1’s Morning Ireland this morning and aired his doubts over the plan.

“I think one of the dangerous things in the statement that John Horan made is that a county found to have a Covid case will be asked to step aside,” the Crossmaglen clubman remarked.

“I’m not sure it’s that practical. If you think of the latter ends of the championship, you think of Dublin going for six in a row, they will be very reluctant to step aside.

“I think it encourages teams to hide Covid cases and that’s certainly not what we want.”
