Thomastown (Kilkenny) cruised to All-Ireland club intermediate hurling championship glory tonight after blowing away Castlelyons (Cork) with a 2-23 to 0-13 win at Croke Park.
The victors made a strong start that saw them opening a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 13 minutes and the points of Luke Connellan, Stephen Donnelly, Jonjo Farrell and Peter McDonald would help them towards a 0-11 to 0-6 interval lead.
Robbie Donnelly increased the Leinster champions’ lead to six with a perfectly struck ‘65’ and two minutes later Stephen Donnelly would have the sliotar in the Castlelyons’ net.
Alan Fenton pulled back a couple of points for the Cork champions but they’d be 10 points adrift after Farrell, Jack Holden and Stephen Donnelly raised white flags.
From there, Robbie Donnelly would send over five of the next six scores prior to Stephen Donnelly’s second goal putting the icing on the cake on an unforgettable occasion for Thomastown.
