Goals from Tommy Walsh and Barry John Keane were key as Kerins O’Rahillys triumphed to their first Munster club senior football championship title at Newcastle West’s expense this afternoon.

It finished 2-6 to 1-8 in favour of the Kerry outfit in Mallow, where the aerial threat of former Kingdom star Walsh was salient for the winners.

It had been the Limerick champions that were able to convert their chances that bit better during the opening period, as the points of Eoin Hurley (2), Shane Stack and Iain Corbett sent them towards a 0-4 to 0-3 interval lead.

Within four minutes of the restart Walsh had the ball in the Treaty men’s net, gathering a diagonal ball in from Jack Savage and blasting in for three points.

Newcastle West responded in the best possible fashion when Mike McMahon was quickest to the rebound of a Cian Sheehan effort, which had come off the post, and he tucked the ball under Shane Foley in the O’Rahillys’ goal.

However, on 39 minutes the ball would be in the Limerick men’s net again. This time Walsh gathered on the square to set-up Keane for the umpire's green flag and O’Rahillys would keep the margin at three before Savage's dismissal thanks to a second yellow card on the hour mark.

Newcastle West fought to the finish but ended up one short in the end as the men from Tralee cemented their place the history books.
