Fans across the country will be allowed to attend sporting events from tomorrow following today’s announcement from the Government.

Under the new ‘Living with Covid’ plan, 200 spectators can attend games in venues with the capacity to host crowds of 5,000 or more, while smaller grounds will be allowed to permit 100 people. However, in Dublin the 200 spectator level does not apply and only 100 can attend a venue regardless of the capacity.

For larger venues such as Croke Park more than 200 may be possible as specific guidance will be developed with the relevant sectors to take account of size and different conditions for events such as large national and international sporting events.

All sporting fixtures in the Republic of Ireland have been played behind closed doors since August 18th.

Previous to that 200 people were permitted to attend outdoor sporting events, with players, team management and officials included in that number.

The move into Level 2 of the Covid-19 restrictions is a boost for the GAA and other sporting organisations across the country after having played their games behind closed doors for the past four weeks.
