The Killarney Legion GAA club in Kerry has been left devastated by the death of young player Damien Lyne, the brother of Kerry footballer Jonathan Lyne.

Damien, who was a part of the Legion U21 side that won the county club championship in 2012 and represented his club at all levels, died following a tragic accident in Killarney in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The Lyne family are well-known in GAA circles in Kerry. Along with his brother Jonathan, Damien's grandfather Denny Lyne and granduncles Jackie and Michael Lyne also won All-Ireland SFC medals with the Kingdom.

His grandfather Denny captained Kerry in the famous 1947 All-Ireland SFC final against Cavan at the Polo Grounds while granduncle Jackie also lined out that day in New York.

The Lynes from Cleeney in Killarney are closely related to the famed Spillanes of Templenoe.
