Might move Duleek-Bellewstown up a few spots after hearing Eamonn Armstrong will likely be available to play by round 3. Good to see AFL clubs supporting their Irish players playing club championship back home when their season is finished.

The goal he got went viral, he scored 1-6 and according to today's Meath Chronicle he scored a fantastic 2 pointer from near the sideline and they gave him man of the match. The Meath Chronicle (print edition) has excellent match reports on all the championship games over the weekend. madmeath (Meath) - Posts: 116 - 12/08/2026 21:57:12 2689632 Link 0 |

Not Jamie's best game. I think the free from the sideline was the only free he scored, he missed 5 easier frees which is very unlike him.

Colm Finlay on Twitter has a video of his free. Must have been 60+ metres in total distance and he probably had another 10m on it at least.

They'll need him, I think Castletown will beat them Saturday week and it'll be a do or die clash against Oldcastle in the final round. Don't think they're good enough to challenge with him anyway.

Hearing Banty tore his quad for the Cillies. They'll struggle without him if he is sidelined for the long haul.

Group A: Kilbride vs Rathkenny -- Kilbride had a great first half against reigning champions Summerhill but clearly lacked the bench impact to seriously defend their lead in the 2nd half. They had glimpses of quality football and transitioned sharply from defense into attack, but Summerhill broke them down and they had a nightmare on kickouts and got a few nasty looking injuries, which puts them under pressure. If Curtis can get on his game and score the chances he apparently got at the last game, Rathkenny have to be favorites. They are a team capable of driving forward, which is to be expected when you have players like Donal Keogan in the team. I think it'll be a competitive game but in the final 10-15 minutes Kilbride will fade out from lack of depth and Rathkenny take it. Verdict: Rathkenny by 6 Dunboyne vs Summerhill -- Summerhill looked fairly sluggish against Kilbride and historically they struggle in group stages. Dunboyne are a better, more experienced team than Kilbride and will put it up to the Champions more. Apparently Charlie Gallagher was on crutches, which will worry them after his monster performance, but again I think Summerhill will have enough quality to eek it out at the end. Verdict: Summerhill by 3 Group B: Trim vs Ratoath -- Trim were impressive against Na Fianna (Aaron Lynch in particular), but again Na Fianna are no great shakes and are tipped for relegation by many. Ratoath dismantled Skryne in an emphatic victory in Dunshaughlin, and they look the team that got to the county final last year. I think Trim will prove a much stiffer challenge than Skryne for them but they'll get the job done. Verdict: Ratoath by 5 Na Fianna vs Skryne -- I expect Na Fianna to improve as this is a must-win game for them as they are unlikely to get anything from Ratoath. Skryne were very disappointing against Ratoath but will be expected to improve also. I think it'll be a more competitive game than expected but Skryne get the win. Verdict: Skryne by 2 Group C: St Colmcille's vs Wolfe Tones -- Certainly an interesting matchup. The Cilles had an impressive victory against Seneschalstown and certainly have some stars in the team, but the Tones are fourth favorites for the entire championship and dismantled Ballinabrackey last time out. I'm expecting a very good game and one that's easy on the eyes. However, I think Tones ultimately have a bit too much quality. Verdict: Tones by 4 Seneschalstown vs Ballinabrackey -- Usually this should be a close game, but Ballinabrackey were so poor against Tones I can't see them winning the game, especially with Sean Coffey gone with an ACL injury. It could be a rough Championship for them and while I doubt they'll get relegated Coffey is a huge blow. I think Ballinabrackey come out flying but collapse after 20-25 minutes. Verdict: Seneschalstown by 7 Group D: Dunshaughlin vs Donaghmore Ashbourne -- Ashbourne almost got a result against Gaeil Colmcille but fell short, and they are playing a Dunshaughlin team who have two county players gone with ACL injuries. Dunshaughlin had a slow first half against Simonstown but eventually showed their quality -- Aaron Murphy and Conor Duke scored 0-20 out of 0-27 between them, and 0-27 is a serious score in club football in general -- Costello was poor enough, but Charlie O'Connor was immense from the 6 position. Ashbourne need a result to have any hope of qualifying for the knockout stages, so I expect them to leave everything on the pitch. Ultimately though, I think Dunshaughlin are good enough to get the result. Verdict: Dunshaughlin by 4 Gaeil Colmcille vs Simonstown -- Simonstown were very poor against Dunshaughlin and Gaeil Colmcille were relatively impressive against Ashbourne. I expect a close first half but Gaeil Colmcille pulling away bit by bit in the second. Verdict: Gaeil Colmcille by 6 RoyalStalwart24 (Meath) - Posts: 106 - 18/08/2026 15:53:26 2690340 Link 0 |

You are always going to get injuries. Its just unfortunate we seem to be getting (long term ones)to key inter county players. Its a real shame for the clubs as they would be banking on the county players to progress in the championship.Maybe it's the workload players (inter county)training 3 nights a week and in the gym another 3 nights and that's more or less all year bar maybe what September October off if your club is not successful. Most players have to work and then go to football so burnout is a big issue but it's been brushed under the carpet by the Gaa in my opinion. The game has got quicker over the years and now you have to be super fit just to be a contender and adds more pressure to players to keep training going when it's off season hence little recovery. The soccer players in premier league wouldn't be training as much as Gaa players and that's their job yet they complain about burnout so it has to be an issue with Gaa.Yes the Gaa brought in a training ban from November to January but the dogs on the street know teams are training then.Unless they really clamp down on it will just carry on.In fairness to the Gaa it would be hard to police it so it should come down to the counties to do it say lads 2 nights a week and a game at weekend that's it but it will never happen.

Good call with the Ashbourne mini upset. Dunshauglin might struggle to get out of this group now.

I attended the Dunshaughlin-Ashbourne game last night. Dunshaughlin were the better team early on but Ashbourne quickly went up the gears and showed infinitely more intensity, fight and simple urgency. We (Dunshaughlin) clearly missed Conor Gray in the middle of the field. Timmy O'Sullivan's kickouts were very poor and Charlie O'Connor (who played excellently) was forced to do it all on his own. Ashbourne got something like 0-9 without reply and deserved their 0-15 to 0-8 lead at HT -- in fact, they should have been further in front. A crucial moment in the game was when O'Connor scored a spectacular two-pointer against the wind just before halftime -- that was big. But the performance for the entire first half and most of the second half was just very disappointing from a Dunshaughlin POV. They looked slow, made stupid decisions regarding possession and kickouts, and their defending around the arc was atrocious -- Bryan Mention and Tormey ran the show. The changes did reinvigorate Dunshaughlin though, and they started to play for the final 20 minutes -- O'Connor played some lovely balls inside to substitute Luke Mitchell, who did well and took his goal to bring the gap to 2 well. Mathew Costello also grew into the game and he played his best football since February with a well-taken two-pointer and some single pointers. Ultimately, though, Ashbourne's better decision on the ball prevented the comeback. Then, Dunshaughlin's defense became a comedy of errors, and they practically danced through for the goal. Ashbourne deserved to win and now Dunshaughlin must beat Kells (Gaeil Colmcille) in the next match or they are out of the Championship, which would be seismic. I was very disappointed leaving the grounds. RoyalStalwart24 (Meath) - Posts: 106 - 21/08/2026 19:02:49 2690813 Link 0 |

There have been some serous hammerings handed out in the first 2 rounds this year. Time for a serous revamp to make club football more competitive Rickoshay (Meath) - Posts: 54 - 21/08/2026 23:17:11 2690834 Link 0 |

Dunshaughlin in a bit of bother, Kells will love to put them out of the championship and are capable of it. I know Dunshaughlin are missing Gray and Kinsella but they still have Costello, O Connor and Duke who will all need to play really well for the rest of the championship.
