Replying To winatallcost:  "Ronan Ryan if an operation required likely to be sidelined too. Not sure about status of Jones or Conlon's fitness. Kinlough should be on way back too.
Think Duke should be in ahead of O'Neill as gives good balance and expect Curtis or Jamie Murphy to start in Frayne's absence for frees.
Hoping some new players impress enough to come through. Conor Gray hopefully fully fit and ready and maybe Adam McDonnell could add something.
Really depends on the lead in over next couple of months."
Who do you think starts in the corner? O'Halloran ? Kinlough could be a good shout at wing forward. Intresting to see how murphy goes, one of the biggest boots in Meath football would be a serious asset for 2pt frees

Murphy is currently on an Erasmus. He won't be playing league football.

Possibly or Keoghan could drop into corner as maybe other wing back options like Hickey, McDonnell etc.
Its was an area we were short in last year.
Robbie Brennan has added a few others to extended panel so won't know until O'Byrne Cup starts when players have a chance to impress.

Is this 100% confirmed? He was definitely one that was expected to really push on soon especially in Frayne's absence.

Are yous all as excited as I am for the league? Wow, can't remember the last time I was so excited for the season to start, probably Andy's first year as gaffer.

Hope we get to see a few young gossens play in the O'Byrne cup and make an impact.

Going to make a bold statement and say this is one of the biggest 0 Byrne cups in the history of the competition for this Meath side. ( I know it's only pre-season, and will be a very much a development side) but i Just feel like we can really blood some youth.

McDonald from Summerhill is a player I'd love to see explode onto the scene this year. heard from a very good senior club footballer that he is the hardest player to mark in Meath club football for several reasons, some i won't get into on this site but regardless

So a quarter final against, most likely, Westmeath awaits us in the championship 2026. We can't meet Louth or Dublin until the final (if we get there). Kildare/Laois/Offaly in the quarter final if we get past the quarter final. Given the progress we made this year, it's an excellent opportunity for at least another Leinster final with a realistic prospect of winning it.

Just a selection of players that were not included from the start at all against Donegal through injury or not being selected and others just getting looked at this year. Lots of alternatives and plenty here that are likely to be first choice starters in 2026.

1. Sean Brennan
2. Conor Ennis
3. Ben Weir
4. Brian O'Halloran
5. Adam McDonnell
6. Charlie O'Connor
7. Killian Smyth
8. Jack Flynn
9. Conor Gray
10. Ronan Jones
11. Jack Kinlough
12. Cathal Hickey
13. Jack O'Connor
14. Jamie Murphy
15. James Conlon

Is there any news on potential captain & vice captain for 2026? Will it be Caulfield and Frayne still?

Heard from a few insiders that Jack Flynn's Leadership has really come to fruition in the last while and has has stood up as massive leader in the changing room I heard Brennan has a 6 man "Leadership Group" with a possibility of a rotating captain . Leadership Group contains Jack Flynn , Donal Keoghan , Eoghan Frayne , Ciaran Caulfield , Aaron Lynch and Sean Coffey heading into the O'Bryne Cup

Be hard for James O'Hare to get a game when he hasn't been asked into the panel

Don't know what the obsession is here about where in Meath lads are from, The likes of Ratoath or the Trim Geals are every bit as tuff as anyone else

Thought James O'Hare had a very good club championship and was worth a go again. O'Rourke had him in a couple of years ago and he could play corner or wing back. Felt he should have persevered with him.

Looking like Kildare are on verge of a breakthrough year this year looking at the standard of clubs. Probably should have happened 3 years ago but they really lost time on glen ryan era like we did with colm orourke, they were very close to being in the leinster final last year but blew it against louth, if they had beaten louth, it would have been meath v kildare leinster final, with louth in the tailteann cup and it would have been very different landscape. i think a meath v kildare leinster final would also have been over 60,000 fansa and been a very special type of day i reallly think meath would have beaten kildare though. louth just too cute and around too long and of course GAA wanted the fairytale of Louth gaa getting revenge on Meath , so Meath would have needed to be 6-7 points a better team to win it i dont think that would have been case v kildare

Jumping the gun a bit there i think. Kildare club football has always been stronger than meath club football and their clubs have consistently competed pretty well in Leinster over the last 25 years and what has the county team got to show for it ? Nothing.

How many Leinster did Kildare clubs win in those 25 years ??
Perhaps 2 more than us ? Think you have a very weak argument there l.

Their clubs have consistently put up solid showings in Leinster. Moorefield Sarafield Naas Athy etc. I didn't say they had won lots of Leinster titles in the last 25 years but their clubs have always been very competitive reaching plenty of semi finals and finals and it hasn't transferred to the county team. Thats my main point here that just because the Kildare clubs are performing well in Leinster does not automatically mean the county team are coming.

Fair enough they could have beaten Louth in the Leinster Semi Final but they also could very well have been beaten by Limerick in the Tailteann Cup final where a last ditch block after the hooter prevented extra time.
