Come down from the sky for christ sake. You were playing Westmeath whom Cavan would be expected to beat easy. Westmeath are not a bad side BUT what beat them last night was their inability to win most of their kick outs. I think they won one in the second half, they showed how vulnerable Cavan. Now going forward a fair guide will be next week against Laois this will give us a far better barometer on where they are at. Laois beat Armagh by 6 points Armagh hammered Cavan pulling up so this will be a fair guide. The man that stood out for me was S Murray when he came on he gave some forward momentum which is a joy to watch. After next weekends fixtures it will be a good guide for the next 4 games. Next week will show if Cavan are playing catch up or in contention for promotion.
Weather wise a pleasant night.
To all genuine Cavan supporters I am well please for you long may it continue. Not a bad crowed either so all in all a nice evening. In conclusion it was a good weekend with the hurlers beating Fermanagh. I think 6 points will be safe but Cavan need to build up scores for if it comes to it.

If lads want to snipe and fight with each other please do the rest of us a favour and set up a separate forum, in fairness most posters here are civil and just want to talk football. I missed the game but I was absolutely buzzing when I heard the result. just 20 lads giving it absolutely everything. its all anyone could wish for. seemed like there were some massive performances too. I was a very proud man when I heard!!!! please god it'll kick start the season and even if promotion is a push a few lads might get exposure at high-level football

Sometimes you just have to applaud effort and courage, and as supporters we should be doing that this week. Breffni was a dismal place 10 minutes into the 2nd half on Saturday night. Everybody including the Cavan management and I daresay the entire Westmeath contingent, had the 2 points crossing Finea bridge A few people had already headed for the exit ( well at least they showed in the first place). But what happened after was just one of those inexplicable things- like a switch was flicked.
Fair play to management on their substitutions, but well done to the players themselves first and foremost. Ciaran Brady had one of his best games in a Cavan jersey and is a true leader on the team.
And to those who say 'if only we had XYZ back it would be better' I say No- stick with Cavan's most committed lads and let the rest look on.

A great win on Saturday evening. Suprised with the win given the lineup and what happened against Armagh, nevermind the scoreline at half time. Some new leaders emerged, and older leaders re-emerged in the 2nd half to re-install the pride in the jersey. Well done to all.

It looks like the Armagh game was not a true reflection and that we are going to be competitive for the remainder of the campaign, with the ability to be clinical of our forward line (or not) being the determining factor of whether we are at the higher or lower end of the table. We will do well to have such a spread of scorers as that in every game.

I had questioned as to what Mickey's plan was in an earlier post last week. Maybe it was flog the players to death in the winter to install a bedrock of fitness that had the legs heavy last week and even noticeably in the first half this week, but to such an extent that it would turn the team into dour stayers that will outlast opponents like Big Bucks in the World Hurdle? and Saturday evening was the first evidence of him reaping the rewards of that?

The Laois result was a bit of a shock, so whats going to happen next week is anyones guess I would say.

I'll go Cavan to win by 1 with Padraig Faulkner bundling in a scrappy late goal to snatch a victory.

Was told before throw in Saturday that Thomas Galligan was told at Christmas he wasn't needed this year and didn't have the fitness for county level and had only been drafted in last week due to injuries.

If true that's quite the statement to management for doubting him, he put in an awesome performance.

All the usual suspects (Quiet Man, GallantJohnjoe etc) here to rain on everyones parade as usual...

Nobody in here is saying that Cavan are going to win an ireland (or even promotion for that matter) based on one win against an average team, we knew that when we lost arguably our best 5 players from last years team before a ball was kicked.
People are just acknowledging this game in its context, a half of football where cavan kicked 1-14 and showed serious pride in the jersey down to 14 men should rightfully be enjoyed and acknowledged. Its going to be a looong year with few high points so at least give the players credit when it is due.

Good to see Thomas Galligan come of age at last, there is a serious player in there that needs to be coaxed out. Steven Murray really should be a starter at this stage too, always impresses when he comes in. Holla Brady was the best player on the park-serious leadership from him.

Dont worry there will be plenty of opportunites to whinge and lay on the negativity later in the year. Today is not one of them.

Things could be worse, could be stuck in division 3 with Cork and the other also-rans ;-)
